We caught up with Morgan Woolley, owner of the beautiful Habit Day Spa, located in Semaphore to ask her a few questions about her business and her motivation that keeps her going on a daily basis!
Tell us about your Skin Treatment Journey…
Good skincare is something that has been instilled in me throughout my life, from watching my mum as a young girl to starting my beauty therapy career at 18 and continuing the journey into my 30’s. With new treatments continually coming out I focus on repair to the skin barrier as well as protection.
What inspired you to set up your own clinic?
I opened Habit Day Spa December 2021, a time of uncertainty for a lot of people, a time where a lot felt on edge and that their minds and body weren’t aligning. I knew Adelaide needed another destination where people could feel welcomed, comfortable and leave in a better mind frame to when they arrived.
Leading up to me opening, I was working with my brother where I gained a lot of mentoring and hands on experience in operations and decided I should combine my passion and skills.
Can you share the story behind the name of your clinic?
Quite a few options came through when naming Habit Day Spa, one is still what my partner calls me to this day ‘’nu nu” which is a term of endearment.
Habit Day Spa came from wanting everyone to make their wellness a habit, not just a treat or a special occasion. Which is also why my pricing is kept very competitive. It’s so easy to put ourselves on the backburner and start caring for everyone around us, but to turn up as the best version of you; means taking time to look after yourself and making your wellness your good habit.
How does your clinic’s philosophy shape the treatments and services you offer?
Habit Day Spa is about mindfulness, relaxation and client experience. We exist so that every woman has the ability to take time out for themselves. Whether alone, with a friend or with a loved one, we help every worry, fear and anxiety melt away.
What area do you specialise in? What unique treatments or services does your clinic offer?
We absolutely specialise in massage, facials and packing the two together. We partnered with an Australian owned and made skincare brand that focusses on skin health and results while also knowing the importance that the mind has on the skin. We provide mindfulness facials which give you the chance to completely switch off to the outside world. It is an industry first incorporating guided mediation with skincare, package this with a full body massage and feel yourself float away.
We also only have diploma qualified beauty therapists here, meaning we can also offer high standard beauty services (waxing, tinting, tanning, manicures and pedicures.
How do you stay updated with the latest advancements in skincare and wellness?
Reading and training! Even though I completed my diploma in 2010 I also updated to the current diploma in 2021. The beauty industry is always coming up with the new best thing to try; I’m so lucky to be with a brand that provides continual support through trainings, webinars and events but also being in the industry for over 10 years has given me the chance to work under, meet and collaborate with fantastic beauty industry leaders.
Can you share a success story where your clinic significantly improved a client’s skin condition?
The main skin condition I see is an impaired barrier, skin barrier concerns come from a lot of internal and external factors which can cause dehydration, fine lines and sensitivity plus so much more. Being in a dry state I love our hydrating facials and then customising the home care. We’ve had clients come in saying their skin has never felt and looked so good and continue coming back.
My favourite success story though, is more from a wellness aspect. I have two sisters that come and see me from when I first opened. They’ve gone through a bit and I love having them in. They’ll try all sorts of treatments here (mainly massage and facials) and always leave feeling better than when they come in. Client relaxation and experience is so big for me that having one say; they wouldn’t have gotten through their father passing on without coming to Habit Day Spa means that I’m doing what I have set out to do.
What factors do you consider when selecting products or technologies for your clinic?
I am all about minimalism when it comes to skincare. Cleanse, moisturise and sunscreen daily, exfoliate weekly and have a facial every 4-8 weeks. If you would like to add more into your routine then I’m here to help.
The brand I selected needed to focus on skins in Australian weather while also knowing that all women are different and have different needs. I first looked at O Cosmedics which is Ginger&Me’s sister brand but after being sent the philosophy of Ginger&Me I knew it would be a perfect fit for Habit Day Spa. An all natural, vegan friendly, gluten free skincare line that gets skin results while looking after the mind is exactly what I am about. It’s important to me to stay away from fads and to stick to tried and tested wellness results.
What have been your biggest challenges in running your own skin clinic?
Running my own day spa is so rewarding but also comes with its fair share of challenges. The beauty industry is highly competitive with many established businesses. Standing out can be an issue so I’ve implemented a wellness memberships which includes a monthly treatment, special promotions and rewards. Like a gym membership but easy.
I’m so lucky to be in an area that supports small business that word of mouth has been a saviour.
Looking forward, what are your main goals for the clinic?
My main goal is to make Habit Day Spa a Wellness Destination. A place where you can getaway whether alone or with friends/loved ones and just switch off. We have plans for a complete restoration of downstairs including a sauna, shower and relax area.
How do you differentiate your clinic in a competitive market
We recognise that our clients greatest desire is to evolve, improve one’s life and better themselves. They want to move from one state of mind to another. Our brand is dedicated to creating that habitat that is designed for restoring, strengthening and transforming the person into a better version of themselves by the time they walk out. As the owner I ensure I am providing treatments as well as employing diploma qualified therapists that has the experience and ability to connect with clients on a personal level which enhances the treatments but also create trust and loyalty.
