- My story -
Growing up I realised how sensitive I was to anything I put in my body or on my body! I couldn’t understand why so many things made me feel unwell until I was about 10 and my school teacher began teaching us all about our health through a Statewide program called ‘The Body Owners Manual’. It was a local SA educational program and I LOVED it! It felt like I had been given a gift – finally I could understand that when you eat or drink certain things they may make you feel crappy, lethargic, etc. So where I am going with all of this – I was from then on a path to wellbeing for the next 40 years!
One thing I really noticed as I head towards the end of my 40’s was how I started to feel about myself. With my children off exploring the world now (well one is, whilst one embarks on his final school year, and the youngest – well let’s just say we have about 10 more years to go!) I’ve noticed how aware I have become about ageing. I was finding it hard to embrace the end of an era (the 40’s) as I wanted to step into this next chapter with gusto. But even acknowledging the fact I am hitting the big 5-0 was a big hurdle for me.
I decided that I would continue my pursuit for absolute wellness and self-care. Through many conversations and trial of skin treatments with some really beautiful, kind hearted and caring beauty therapists (and specialists in their own right) I set myself on a path of more than just self-care. But one with compassion, forgiveness and appreciation (for how far I have come, what I have achieved – even if that means getting the kids off to school on a daily basis!).
I wanted to really evaluate what I needed at this time in my life. So I have focussed on giving myself the following:
- Time – time for me to be me, time for self care, a regular facial, massage, a dip in the ocean, daily exercise, meditation (still working on that one) or whatever it is that gives me space to be me
- Connection – with friends that make me smile and I know I can be me but also getting out there to network and meet other amazing people with a positive outlook on life. Sometimes it’s too easy to stay at home and be in my own space. I appreciate what I have when I get out and am inspired by just being out and chatting with others.
- Joy – finding joy in the simplest of things is key for me. I love getting in the garden or swimming at the beach, taking a photograph of a beautiful flower or in nature. And actually being present in these moments – actively absorbing where I am and what I am doing has made the appreciate the enormity of life and how there’s so much more to do.
- Purpose – finding purpose in all of this is the driving force to getting out of bed everyday. In the hope that I can make someone’s life that little bit better, be a shining light to their ideas and be supportive in making it happen.
This is me. I hope to meet one day over a cup of tea or gin (or whatever you like best!) and chat about your business, so I can learn about your focus and how I can best help you. Tell me your story, how you got started and what drives you in business! I want to hear all about it. Let’s inspire others.
